Mission Codename Since 1597
This is 2024s first “CLASSIFIED” offer.
If you’re new to Wine Spies, for reasons that will become clear once in your hands, CLASSIFIED wines are so in demand, so exclusive, or so highly rated that they must remain hidden behind a cloak of secrecy. These are wines you rarely, if ever, see at a discount. And because some wineries are so price-sensitive, their mailing list members would go ballistic seeing a deep deal on it.
Revealing the name would put our livelihood at stake. Our industry is built on relationships and not wanting to ruffle feathers, sometimes it’s a necessary precaution to redact some of the information.
Unless…
We go full redaction – CLASSIFIED - über-top-secret under the moonless black night with it. Or a sun-drenched Friday morning as is the case here. HOWEVAH. We drop some breadcrumbs, and the savviest of you will probably put the pieces together.
Here’s your chance to put your detective skills to the test. To pursue one of Napa Valley’s highest rated, enchanting Cabs. Or you can just put your order in, kick back, and treat yourself to a surprise gift. When it lands on your doorstep, tear open the box and stare in wonder at the treasure you scored here.
Speaking of scores, this one has pulled of a 98 AND a 97 recently from two trustworthy and popular publications. Another BIG CLUE is that we openly sold, and sold out the past 3 vintages of this same wine but it’s gotten so sought after that the winery requested, we go CLASSIFIED for the best ever 2021.
The winemaker here is the one and only Julien Fayard With a few wine degrees under his belt from UC Davis, he started at Lafite Rothschild, Smith-Haut-Lafitte before conquering the Napa Valley. He worked alongside the illustrious Philippe Melka, producing extraordinary wines from Lail, Vineyard 29, Metisse, Dalla Valle in the past… and today, Purlieu, along with his very own Covert Estate.
Then, the retail price is $150. Our price is allowed ONLY if we play by the rules.
The reviews, which we can’t print in their entirety (otherwise you’d surely figure it out) are filled with high praise like:
- “A truly sensuous mouthfeel”
- “With enough texture to alert the palate”
- “Sleek but powerful and concentrated”
- “Built for the long haul, needing time”
- “A perfect storm of flavor and nuance”
Another perfect storm rated 97-98 has already started and will result in sellout.
