A Napa Valley stalwart, Silverado has a celebrated history. Owners of six prime vineyards up and down the stretch, from Coombsville to Oakville and beyond, they’ve been making prime Napa Cabernet from their Stags Leap District base for decades.

With 3 decades of winemaking here, Jon Emmerich knows just about every inch of every vineyard, and that’s how this “Block Blend” came to be. From their own description, “It’s sorta a ‘dealer’s choice’ if you will of Silverado’s Cabernets with the winemaker and his team crafting a blend from the very best vineyard blocks from Silverado’s estate Cabernet vineyards.”

The 2018 vintage represents blocks A and T at the home Silverado Estate Vineyard in Stags Leap District (planted to the Heritage See Clone), blocks M and T at Mount George Vineyard in Coombsville; a historic site at the cooler end of the valley with rocky volcanic soils. And last but not least block S from the iconic Oakville Station Vineyard on the west Oakville bench first planted in 1883.

It was hard to make bad wine in 2018 - a near-perfect vintage, especially for Cab. Fruit-forward and youthful, it breaks off a healthy dose of juicy red cherry, black plum, and blackberry with dusty anise, black pepper, bay leaf, smoked bacon, and graphite mixed in. Finishes with a grip, and balanced acidity, with tannins that are fine-grained and smooth out with a little age. Hard to find an impeccably made Napa Cab that brings the synergy of Stags Leap, Coombsville, and Oakville together - at this price - but what else do you expect from your Agents of Wine?
