Mission Codename Seriously, do not move!
As Vinous reports, “Cerretta and Prapò are two intriguing wines from Davide Fregonese, made by Davide Rosso along the lines he employed for the Barolos at his own estate, which means approximately 25 days on the skins and a total of three years in cask.”
Here’s another sexy single vineyard Cru Barolo at OVER 50% off. You are welcome, dear Operative!
Davide Fregonese dreamt of producing high-quality Barolo for many years: “I rediscovered a deep sense of belonging to my homeland, along with a strong call from my roots in Piedmont and my most authentic passions.” He purchased a small plot in the famed Cerretta (alongside the legendary Giovanni Rosso who consults here) and set out to make a fuller style of Serralunga d’Alba from the richer soils.
If tasted blind, the profile and the quality are closer to $200 just like the Cerretta, this is another big and juicy Barolo. Well-structured with lush tannins and bright acid. Notes of blackberry, coco and cedar flood the senses both on the nose and tongue. Lush fruit and spice leave you needing more. And the finish?! You’ll be thinking about it all the way past Valentines Day (hint, hint…)
Here’s a fun fact, Fregonese calls his company Bugia Nen, which in Piemontese means ‘do not move.’ It’s an expression from the Battle of Assietta of 1747, when the determination of 4,800 soldiers stopped the advance of 50,000 French, under the command of Giovanni Battista Cacherano. The General’s command was clearly not to give way! Bugia Nen is more than a name to Fregonese and his crew: it’s a tribute to obstinacy and determination. And we thank him for it!
A limited number of these bottles again – like the Cerretta! If you missed that, or even if didn’t, do not miss this!
95 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Floral aromas of rose and violet mingle with ripe red berry, truffle and leather in this perfumed red. Elegant and firmly structured, the linear palate offers juicy Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and ground clove before a mineral finish evoking rust. Taut, polished tannins provide support. It’s less austere than in cooler years but will still offer years of pleasure. Drink 2025-2032.”
