Mission Codename A Tall Tale...
This stuff is so tasty for the price that we aren’t sure how they did it.
And we aren’t suggesting they raise it either - at extremely modest prices it’s just ridiculous value. Knock a few bucks off, toss in 92 points, and you have a Locker Stocker offer of the highest order.
As the story goes, Dixie & Bass lived a couple blocks from one another in the Echo Canyon section of LA. Dixie was a personal trainer to B-list Hollywood stars, and Bass restored old Firebirds and Camaros. One February night, they met at a Mardi Gras party, where they were attracted to each other’s outlandish, brightly colored animal costumes. The rest of the story involves alligators, Instagram views, and Aqua Net and to be honest we aren’t sure how much of it is actually fact or fiction.
But we do know they eventually settled in Washington, specifically Columbia Valley (home to some of the state’s best producers.) They bought a few acres of vineyards and started making small amounts of delicious wines. Frankly, that’s all that matters.
What also matters is who’s behind this delicious bargain, it’s consulting winemaker Joshua Maloney with a resume spanning Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars to Estancia to Chateau Ste. Michelle before taking the helm at the Aquilini family of wines, where Dixie & Bass belongs.
A classic Bordeaux blend of 54% Cab with Malbec, Merlot, and Cab Franc yielding a JUICY, fruit-packed, and crazy enjoyable wine from the moment you pop the cork. Chocolatey cherry, mixed berry pie, and cola mix with gentle spices and herbs to make this a no-fuss, easy-drinking weeknight winner. American oak wraps it in a bit of sweet caramel and coconut but it’s not the cloying style that appeals to beavers. Just the right touch to add a little depth and structure.

92 Points – Sunset Magazine
“Carob, dried herb and black-cherry aromas lead to dark fruit flavors. The tannins give a very firm, dry grip. Give it a very long decant.”
90 Points – Natalie MacLean
“Dixie & Bass 2018 is a dry, full-bodied Bordeaux-style Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot red wine blend from grapes sourced in the Columbia Valley wine region. A juicy, fruit-driven red with crushed raspberry, dark fruit, savoury herb and baking spice flavours on the palate. The wine was aged in American oak barrels for 16 months. Pour with a lamb shoulder roast.”
