Vultour is a boutique project out of Napa, with industry veteran Zach Yates, and rockstar winemaker Kian Tavakoli at the helm. If those names don’t sound familiar maybe you’ve heard of Opus One and Clos du Val?? Yes, Tavakoli is THAT level of rockstar!

Tavakoli and Yates built Vultour on the idea that the best wines come from the best vineyards. This Reserve label bears the Rutherford appellation, where some of Napa Valley’s greatest Cabernets are born, encompassing mostly valley floor vineyards, with rich alluvial deposits, home to some of the most famous vineyards, such as Inglenook, Caymus, Alpha Omega, Quintessa, and more.

What a vintage too! Hot off the press, Antonio Galloni reiterated on Vinous just last month: “The 2021s are aromatic, refined, and wonderfully expressive. I found many wines to be truly exceptional both in terms of quality and what seems to be a more finessed approach than in the past, something that is evident at many estates… In tasting, the 2021s show tremendous energy and finesse.”

Richly endowed with black fruits - heaps of black plum, loads of black currant, and a flood of dusty cassis. Fresh tobacco, worn leather, and crushed stone join the party, and it’s all woven together in a fairly seamless and smooth fashion. This has YEARS ahead of it but is easily drinkable now - just give it some time to air out before you do.
