Mission Codename Blancs have more fun
“There’s a lot to admire in the best dry whites of 2021.” – Vinous
Insiders know… Haut-Brion’s white is much rarer, costlier, and sought after than its red. It’s so with Cheval Blanc too. And very few people even know of the existence of a La Fleur Morange BLANC.
Speaking of… make sure you secure your super limited 6-pack vertical of the ROUGE here in the Store going back to 2012, also at a ridiculously good price.
Aah, this SWAN of a wine. Where does one even begin? It’s Sauvignon GRIS and Blanc, gliding across the proverbial pond oh so gracefully. Was first made in 2020, which was a good year for whites but not truly outstanding. As Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate reports, “Thanks to rather cool conditions in 2021, Bordeaux’s white grapes preserved acidity and vibrant aromatics, delivering the finest set of dry whites since 2017. Chiseled and intense, they exhibit considerable potential.”
No reviews yet on this, but even with under 10 barrels made, the inaugural vintage was a hit per Jeb Dunnuck with “lots of honeyed pineapple and ripe lemon-like notes… a nicely balanced, medium-bodied Bordeaux Blanc that offers plenty of heft yet stays bright and lively due to good acidity” and Jancis Robinson echoed: “Rich, sweet nose. Lots of oak-ageing, I would imagine, with some spice and very slightly heavy fruit but it would go with much the same foods as an Alsace Pinot Gris, though this wine has a bit more green-fruit zestiness. Quite a presence in the mouth. Not an aperitif wine! Like most of the wines from this address, it’s big and beefy.”
Hefty, big, and beefy indeed, this stuff is EXOTIC. Flamboyant aromas of dried fruits, lemon, clove, and smoky, nutty oak. Thick and creamy in the mouth, with fruit salad and spice flavors enlivened by tangy acidity. Has the palate presence and richness of a great white Burgundy, the fat and fulness of a white Hermitage, with the zing buoyancy of an Alsatian, while staying uniquely itself. Charbroiled lobster tails, drawn butter, (many) sips of this, and repeat!
Not only all that, but we challenge you to find a bottle of it ANYWHERE out there, and we’re not talking about our killer price either. It’s a true unicorn, and when you pour this for your Bordeaux - heck even ANY white wine-loving friends - they’ll be begging for a bottle out of that case (or more) you wisely put your way today because you are a good Operative that listens to our advice.
So glad we got to it first, now it’s your turn!
