Mission Codename Flying so high
“His wines have been consistently fine…” – PinotFile
If you’re a serious Pinot hunter, you might already know Flying Goat Cellars.
And if you’re a wine nerd at all, you KNOW Bien Nacido Vineyard. For the rest of you, here’s your chance to get in on one of the best-kept secrets of the Central Coast winemaking scene.
At a BIG 60% OFF, this is the Pinot deal of the month, putting it well within reach of even the most price conscious. Flying Goat may have a whimsical label, yet the wines are dead serious. Oh ya…. and a 93 Points for this bad boy from Wine Enthusiast to demonstrate it.
This hip project is owned and made by Norm Yost, who’s an old hand in the wine industry. He brings 40 years’ experience in the biz, starting as winemaker for Foley Estates, spending a long time in Napa, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, and Willamette Valley. Now, running his own, he focuses on a garagiste style production of vineyard designates - mostly Pinot and bubbly (aka. Goat Bubbles.)
It’s rare to see these anywhere outside their tiny little ‘wine ghetto’ Lompoc tasting room, this one is normally reserved for his mailing list and club members only. Today, while it lasts, you can get it for a steal.
Those who know know that Bien Nacido is a powerhouse in and of itself! Named as a Top Five California Vineyards by The Wall Street Journal and Top 25 in the world by Wine & Spirits, it’s the best of the best. Planted in 1973 in the Santa Maria Valley, one of the coolest Pinot Noir climates in California, it’s widely regarded a ‘Grand Cru’ source. Basically, anything with BN on the label is a big winner.
This wine, though?!
Simply stunning. A complex array of dark and red fruits and earth tones with a silky-smooth texture. Cherry cola, forest floor, hibiscus, and subtle hints of mushroom. The finish? A mile long easily with that sappy balance only great Pinot from a great site can hit. Not to be missed, honestly.
A true expression of top terroir, and 100% a “DO YOU HAVE MORE OF THIS??” when you taste it!
Do your future self a favor and grab a case. We’re talking a screamin’ good price here!
93 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Dried berry, black-tea, hibiscus and loam aromas invite the nose into this bottling from an iconic vineyard. The palate is quite complex, offering sour-cherry, mace, sumac and tea-leaf flavors.”
