Mission Codename Jump on this I Tela ya
Nothing much to see here on a quiet Sunday morning… unless you’re into smokin’ hot, undiscovered Napa Cab deals!
That’s about 95% of you, we’re guessing.
So, here’s a good ol’ micro-production, locals-only, Napa Cab making its way onto our quiet little corner of the interweb at a melon-busting 58% OFF.
It’s rare (perhaps, never) to see this wine ANYWHERE outside the small tasting room in downtown Napa. Much less at this price. Just one sip of this sent the flood of dopamine to our wine-addled brains a few weeks ago. Truly a standout in a crowded table of samples. And after dialing in a fantastic price (POOF! $95 begone!) …it’s here today.
Until it’s not…
Tela was, admittedly, unfamiliar to us.
But it truly doesn’t get more “locals only” than this. They’re the definition of a small, under-the-radar producer, quietly making small lots of 100% Napa Valley wines for nearly 20 years. And by small we mean miniscule - around 200 cases annually. Unless you’re in Napa and visiting Vintners Collective - where their wines are poured with around 40 tiny producers - you probably haven’t seen or heard of them either.
But consider yourself among the lucky ones today.
And get this - Rolando Herrera has been the winemaker from the very start in 2005. Unfamiliar name? It’s time you got educated because he has an incredible track record. Rolando started at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars working under Warren Winiarski, he then moved to Chateau Potelle followed by Vine Cliff and served as head winemaker under Paul Hobbs.
Today he makes outstanding wines under his own brand Mi Sueño and consults for various other small producers like Tela, Noemi, and Red Stitch. He’s tapped into some terrific sources beyond his own vineyards and leverages those contacts to supply grapes for Tela. In fact, his very own vineyard in Saint Helena supplied fruit for Caymus’ Special Selection and Joseph Phelps Insignia bottlings. Until he started using those grapes for his own projects…
This has everything you want in Napa Cab - an intense, intoxicating nose of sweet red and black fruits, spices, and toasty oak. In the mouth, it has all the makings of your typical premium Napa Cab - a soft, seamless flood of plum, blackberry compote, chocolate nibs, nuanced woody spices, and sumptuous sweet oak. Riding on delicate, powdery tannins into a long finish. Polished, opulent, elegant…just a dreamy example at $40!
But…. you better move quickly - with just a handful of cases made, we secured barely enough for an offer! If you score some, congratulations!
