Mission Codename Topa Topa Topa
Well as many of you might have guessed, Hawk and Horse rode away quickly today! Sold out in record time. But fear not, friends, we got you covered.
But DO NOT consider this a consolation prize. This wine is FIRE all by itself.
92 points and only 22 beans, this is a no brainer!
From a boutique producer in one of the hottest AVAs in California, this is a wine to fall in love with now.
This Cabernet Franc from Camp Four Vineyard is made by folks at Topa Mountain Winery. The vineyard is located on the eastern edge of Satna Ynez, almost as a gateway into Happy Canyon in the sub AVA of Los Olivos. Yes, the Los Olivos of Sideways fame, of course. It provides an ideal microclimate with its sunny exposure for a long growing season and maximum flavor development. Local paper The Santa Barbara Independent raves about the “Serious Wines and Stunning Views” here.
Oh, and Camp Four is quite the sought-after site, frequenting mighty fine labels such as Epiphany, Kunin, Margerum, and Bonny Doon in the past, to name a few.
Honestly this Cab Franc drinks like the best from the Loire Valley, and then some. Big red and blue fruits play perfectly with an array of herbs, and subtle hints of cigar box. Elegant tannins and a perfume that’s so aromatic that you can smell it from across the room. Absolutely gorgeous.
If you let the Hawk and Horse get away, don’t delay this time. And for twenty two bucks!?
92 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Dried berry and smoked meat aromas show on the clean nose of this bottling. Baked red-fruit and dried herb flavors are warmed by oak and baking spice on the well-integrated palate.”
