Mission Codename Wight and golden
“If you haven’t heard of Justin Harmon, you should write that name down.” – Jeb Dunnuck
In the words of Notorious BIG, “if you don’t know, now you know.” But if you have heard of him, you know it’s rare to see one of Justin’s wines under $75. Unless you’re a Wine Spies Operative, of course…
We featured an epic Pinot Noir from Wightman a few weeks ago and with hot temperatures across the country, this Chardonnay is like icing on the Wightman cake.
We are PUMPED to have this Chardonnay at UNDER $20. That’s over 60% off retail pricing!
Justin Harmon steers this project with talented conviction. He’s a young, under-the-radar talent who’s beginning to make big waves. Wine Enthusiast recognizes his talent, reporting “for his Pinot Noirs, Harmon aims for texture and intensity for his fruit-driven style.” No official scores on this Chardonnay but as a reference point, previous vintages of his Pinot Noirs got 95-96 points from Kevin Vogt MS, who found them “so alluring that your instinct to swallow will override your will to allow it to linger longer on your palate…” concluding “where have you been all my life!
And so, you’ll ask, too.
No surprise really, when you learn Justin worked alongside the wizard himself, Russel Bevan, who seems to deliver 100-pointers every vintage. [INSERT TEASER for a momentous day tomorrow.]
Justin also leaves his mark on the Argot lineup (a personal favorite of this Agent) where he seems to consistently hit mid to high 95+ points across the board.
Though it is not on the label, we have the inside scoop that the wine is sourced from one of the premiere vineyards in Napa Valley, Maldonado Vineyard. This fruit is legendary, in its own right, and served as the backbone of Kongsgaard Chardonnay. And good luck finding that wine for less than $150! $19 is basically giving it away!!
And this wine is gorgeous! Aromas of honeydew, green apple and an array of tropical fruits fill your nose. This leads into a crisp palate of white peach, hazelnut and pineapple. The bright acid and a lush round mouthfeel is perfectly paired to your hot summer nights. Heavy enough to hold up to BBQ and light enough to cool you down a few degrees.
Production is tiny, just a half dozen barrels, and we begged for our share. Get yours while it’s here!
