Mission Codename Forget me not
Small production, 60+ year old vine Zinfandel hailing from some of Sonoma’s oldest pre-prohibition vineyards should get any red wine drinker’s heart going pitter patter.
Throw in that it is from one of wine industry’s finest vintners, Jean-Charles Boisset, and the WICKED deal we have it for today and you’ve got reason for full on heart palpitations.
A house brand from Oakville Grocery, Forgotten Vines honors the heritage vineyards of Sonoma which were mostly forgotten during Prohibition. The famed grocery store sits just over the Mayacamas, right across from the To-Kalon vineyard and a stone’s throw away from Opus One, in the heart of Napa’s finest. To say the standards here are exceptional would be an understatement.
The Sonoma vineyards is an array of ancient looking, decades and even century- old gnarly, head-trained vines. Mostly Zinfandel with a few other varietals likely thrown in, since that’s what happened back then, these vines are still producing brambly, hearty, intensely flavored fruit. Harvested as vineyard blocks and aged in American oak, this wine could not be more indicative of what California Zinfandel can be when done perfectly.
Concentrated, complex and inky, this Zinfandel (with a splash of Petite for some structure) brings a full monty of heady goodness to the table. A tapestry of sweet red cherries, strawberry jam, cinnamon, nutmeg, and five spice co-mingle together. Ultra satisfying, plush, and decadent in style.
And did we mention near 60% OFF?!
What more can we say? This Zin has it going on!
