Mission Codename A-mazz-ing

“The secret is gorgeous grapes. We have amazing vineyards.” – Antoine Favero, Winemaker

MAZZOCCO. If you know, you know.

It has been YEARS since we featured a true banger from this flagship winery. Mind you, this isn’t just any Mazzocco, but the RESERVE bottling from Serracino Vineyard. This baby is the perfect example of Dry Creek Zinfandel!

At more than HALF price no less! It sure pays to have close friends in the industry… JUST SAYIN’!

You’ll recall, Mazzocco is one of the most popular of the Wilson Artisan Wineries, a portfolio HUGE in popularity, locally and nationally, stacking best of this, best of that awards year after year since their humble beginnings in the early 1990s. With wines scoring 90+ points with Wine Spectator and that impeccable track record of literally hundreds of Gold Medals from competitions, they are unrivaled, just like their other acclaimed sister properties - Wilson Family, Matrix, Pezzi King, Rockpile, to name a few.

Serious Zin lovers ADORE Mazzocco. They jump at the chance to score any of the select few small production Reserves. Champagne-born winemaker Antoine Favero has been at the helm here since 2005, sharpening his reputation on Zinfandel. The Press Democrat wine country’s very own paper, gave this beauty 94 points and a Gold at the North Coast Wine Challenge this year. Put it up against any other Zins in your cellar.

BIG, jammy and ripe - just how you like it. This combines a field blend of 87% Zinfandel, 7% Petite Sirah and 6% Carignane and is 100% awesome. The antithesis of a wimpy wine, it’s pumped full of throbbing brambly fruit. Huckleberry, black cherry, and raspberry - heck it’s like a fragrant mixed berry pie in a bottle. Throw in a little vanilla, chewy toffee, Cuban coffee, and a little sweet spice, too. For us, this is the ultimate summer BBQ wine and a sure-fire crowd-pleaser.

Every Mazzocco we have ever featured flew out the door so don’t sit around today!

Don’t let this one slip away!
