Mission Codename Eureka indeed
“Archimedes is clearly the showstopper in the six wines I tasted from Coppola.” – Robert Parker
Born of the impressive 2019 vintage. Made by a legendary producer. And priced like THIS.
Not $125. Not the $93 wine club member price. Drop it low, shaving over 60% OFF, taking it all the way down to UNDER $50! With points to back, this is such a no-brainer at a price that makes us blush…
Aside from directing some of the best movies ever Francis Ford Coppola boasts a deep passion for all things wine. As you can imagine, if know anything of the epic styling of Mr. Coppola, his namesake winery is basically a dreamy Hollywood set of sorts. Seriously, after reopening in 2010 this place boasts some of the coolest attractions in wine country. Visit their wine tasting bar (obviously), two restaurants, swimming pools, movie gallery, performing arts pavilion, a park with game tables, and… of course, bocce ball courts. You could literally have a weeklong vacation and not need to leave the property. Which isn’t a bad idea now that we think of it…
This is THE flagship Cab under Francis Ford Coppola paying homage to Francis’ uncle Archimedes aka ‘Uncle Archie’ who loved math and mechanics as much as his namesake. Sourced from some of the highest-elevation vineyards in Alexander Valley, where the altitude provides fruit of impressive weight, chewy tannins, and dense texture.
In the legendary director’s own words from a Forbes interview, “Archimedes turned out to be a premium wine. It was a name our family gave to the eldest son. My grandfather named my eldest uncle Archimedes [after the Greek mathematician and astronomer] because he was a great admirer of his mind. You know, Archimedes was the one who first said “Eureka!” My grandfather died from a hepatitis epidemic in the 1920s so when it came to making our best wine we called it Archimedes.”
It only makes sense this Cab would have the deep complexity and towering structure to live up to the namesake. It delivers a terrific balance of ripe fruits and savory, spicy character, jam-packed with dusty blackberries and black plums, toasty cigar box, and roasted espresso, cedar, and cocoa powder. Complex and brooding, with fine tannins. A little breather is all it needs to start unwinding and it has the stuffing to last for many years.
This is a wine for true Cab lovers, and it won’t stick around for long so DO NOT DELAY!
93 Points – Natalie MacLean
“From Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Archimedes 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is so named after the Greek mathematician Archimedes who, about 2,000 years ago, established the laws of physics. Archimedes’ principle, a law of physics, indicates that the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces. I guess that includes grapes as well. Love this Cab with dark berry, dark cherry, black olive and minty, savoury aromas and flavours supple on the palate. Tannins are velvety and rounded. Drink or hold.”
91 Points – Wine Enthusiast
“Striking aromas of menthol and clove leads to black cherries, mint and blueberries on the palate of this full-bodied but supple-textured wine. Moderate tannins are well integrated for drinking the wine now through 2027.”
