Mission Codename True Val-or
Clos du Val!!
A pillar in the Napa Valley fine wine scene, founded in 1972. A powerhouse that joined with Chateau Montelena and other California wineries to dominate and win in the Judgement of Paris in 1976. One of the most reliable trusted Napa producers on the map.
Yup, that’s the one… that San Francisco Chronicle defined as “one of the grande dames of the Napa Valley… returning to its roots, focusing on what it does best and making smaller amounts of better-quality wines.”
With decades of recognition and consistency, you already know what to expect. But are you fully prepared for this fresh drop from the epic 2022 vintage? With 96 points…at the best price around?!
You already know Clos du Val has been a force in the industry since founders John Goelet and Bernard Portet brought it to life nearly 50 years ago. Antonio Galloni’s Vinous recently caught up with the modern-day developments at the iconic winery: “Under the direction of Steve Tamburelli, Jon-Mark Chappellet, and Ted Henry, Clos du Val is in the midst of repositioning itself as a premium winery. Production is down and a focus on quality is up. When it comes to the wines there is not much to say, except that they are superb.”
They are on a roll lately, and this might be one of the best entry level Napa Cabernet values in recent memory. With a modest 30% new French oak, the fruit shines front and center with dark cherry and blackberry in front. Violets and cedar mingle with bittersweet chocolate and a fresh acidity sweeps it along. If you’re a fan of Napa Cab (and we know most of you are) you just cannot go wrong here!
The floodgates are open and no doubt this one will FLY! Make your move before it’s too late…
96 Points – The Tasting Panel
“A wash of elegant liquid offers a whisper of sleek tannins guided by sweet earth, slate, purple plum, and black olive. Midpoint savory notes of fig, toasted cedar, and black tea meld with heather and blackberry on the well-structured and impeccably balanced palate.”
