We LOVE when a Charles Smith wine lands. The winemaking wonder always delivers a straight up treat for your flavor muzzle. Nobody does it like him - with over 200 95+ scores, he simply doesn’t miss.

Like most of his wines, this brings big scores to the table. With 97 points from Suckling and a 94 from Jeb to firm it up. Charlotte is named after Charles’ baby girl. And he went into full creative blending mode to pull the greatest hits of what a profound site offers. The 2019 is about half Mourvédre for beef and body, a quarter Grenache in there for fun and games, a little Counoise here, pinches of Syrah and Cinsault there. But the fireworks of flavor do not end there, co-fermented in are some whites, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul, that add flowers and aromatics. All aged in 100% neutral French oak.

The result is nothing short of remarkable. In short, it’s utterly balanced, and a true joy to drink. The most fascinating part is the way it starts so playfully mouth-watering, before turning so seriously complex and deep.

Fresh and bright, but turns more savory and complex as the palate goes on. Sage and tarragon mix with ground white and black peppercorn. Drink or hold.”

“The translucent ruby-hued 2019 Charlotte is another rocking wine in the lineup. Based on 47% Mourvèdre, 26% Grenache, and the rest a mix of red and white varieties, it reveals spicy, complex notes of cherry, ripe strawberries, leather, sandalwood, and white pepper, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple, elegant, seamless wine. Very pretty, pure and polished, with fine tannins, this silky beauty is balanced and delicious.”
