What We Say 2019 Howell Mountain Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
What the Winery Says
Girard
The year started out with ample rainfall which kept the soils moist and cool into spring. Summer was marked by warm, even daytime temperatures with few extreme heat spikes. The opportune weather conditions continued into late summer and fall. The harvest was of average volume, if not slightly below average, and the fruit quality was exceptional; allowing us to craft wines with texture, structure, and finesse.
The fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from a vineyard high in the Howell Mountain AVA of Napa Valley where the combination of volcanic soils and high elevation exposes the fruit to sunshine for more hours in the day coupled with warmer nights which affords even ripening and powerful, bold tannins for an age-worthy wine.
The nose reveals aromas of blackberry, juicy black cherry, coffee and cocoa powder enveloped in an array of dried herbs. The full-bodied palate is layered with intense flavors of blackcurrants, Boysenberry cobbler and baking spice. Firm, yet ripe tannins expand on the palate and lead into an enduring finish, scented with hints of vanilla, baking spice and dried tobacco.
