Mission Codename When in Romé
We LOVE bringing you hidden gems we’re certain you will fall in love with too.
Barolo lovers today is your day.
Antonio Galloni’s Vinous knows the good stuff when they see it: “Cà Romé flies under the radar, which is a shame, as these wines are truly deserving of more attention.” That along with double 93 points from both sides of the ocean make this a no-brainer.
Was $130, just because that’s what it costs to farm and make a Cerretta - one of the most sought-after Crus around. Just a handful of top-notch vintners get access to it - Baudana, Azela, Germano Ettore, Prunotto, Schiavenza, Conterno… We’re in cult Barolo territory, no doubt. And each of those wines will run you MUCH more than what you’ll pay today for the same fruit. Think of an Échezeaux, in Burgundy terms, which is not a far-fetched association at all, given what’s in our glasses.
Starting with a rich, invitingly sweet, and spicy nose that remains gently fragrant on the palate but with a firm, muscular structure, and beautifully finessed, fine-textured tannins, with subtle, integrated notes of berry custard cream, and Tahitian vanilla. There is a firmness and muscularity to it, while it caresses your senses on the way to the long finish. A great combination of purity, focus, and persistence: chef’s kiss!
All that at 60% OFF?! A monumental single vineyard at a miniature price for what it is… now all you have to do is grab what you can before gone cause we’re already backing up our personal trucks to get in on this!
93 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“This is a darkly concentrated and perfumed expression of Nebbiolo from Serralunga d’Alba. The Cà Romé 2018 Barolo Cerretta is a robust, full-bodied wine with dark cherry, plum, earth, black licorice and campfire ash. This wine has the power and texture to pair with succulent pork pot roast. Drink 2024-2038.”
93 Points – Decanter
“Fragrant earthy cherry with some balsamic lift. Lovely black cherry and spice character in the mouth, with a sapid quality and some floral, balsamic overtones. Very grippy, chalky tannins. Chocolatey, tarry, blueberry finish. Lovely. Drinking window 2023-2034.”
