Weil is an iconic grower in the Rheingau with roots back to 1875. Yet that’s nothing in the grand scheme of history in the small village of Kiedrich dating back to 950. Today the winery oversees 222 acres of vines - all planted exclusively to Riesling. When Wilhelm Weil took over operations in 1987, he made a point to transform the winery into a super modern and innovative winemaking facility where attention to detail is the rule.

Fermentation takes place in huge neutral oak vats, giving it extra weight and textural richness - without compromising the delicate balance of fruit and minerality. Compared to a Mosel Riesling, this has a little more “oomph” - the latter being slightly leaner, with a more electric zip.

In the glass, this one is dry as a bone, but intensely concentrated and bursting with citrus, tropical, and floral flavors. White peaches, Asian pears, and lychee play with jasmine, honeysuckle, and exotic white flowers. And of course, an abundance of minerality comes into focus with each sip.

It’s truly head-spinning, magical stuff. If researchers found it helped form new synapses and neural pathways in the brain, we would not be surprised at all.
