You can’t even sniff a BGIII Cab for the price you see today. The lowest you can find one for is $150, and $200-300 is not uncommon for a Cabernet from this legendary vineyard.

And while you won’t find the Beckstoffer name anywhere on the label, we have verification from the winery that’s where the fruit comes from. Not only was 2018 a terrific year, but it was also an abundant harvest. And with extra fruit came an opportunity to source it from BGIII - however, at the winery price they had to sign an NDA to not include it on the label for fear of “cheapening” the site.

We can’t even give you the exact scores or tell you which publications wrote them. We can report they hit outstanding, as in the mid-90s, and come from a variety of trusted sources on both sides of the pond. One described it as a “powerhouse of profound crème de cassis” that’s “full-on decadent” while another pegged it as a “classic Bordeaux look-alike.”

Not surprising for the source’s pedigree, is an Opus One and Clos du Val alum at the winemaking helm. It serves up an impressive combination of opulence and freshness. Loaded with black fruit, it serves a heaping of blackberry pie, sweet cinnamon stick, worn leather, and shades of dark chocolate. Anise, violets, and graphite all find their way into the puzzle, and fine-grained tannins and natural acidity round it out.
