Mission Codename Flower power
It’s a Friday Appy Hour deja-vu! A decade-young, silky cherry of a Cult Right Bank returns!
Their winemaking consultant extraordinaire Claude Gros says “the Juliens love their vines so much, they practically have a name for each of them.”
This is truly one of the highlights from Agent Noir and Agent Vine’s adventure in Bordeaux. Not available anywhere. Like in the world. We had to go TO the property, get lost a little bit on the way there, and knock on the tiny cellar door for YOU! After meeting one of the most charming families in the industry and tasting some incredible wine, we cherrypicked the very best of this cult garagiste property has ever made.
Like $59 FOR PERFECTLY AGED AT THE WINERY vintage Right Bank bliss?! CRAZY!
Jancis Robinson reflects back on the humble beginnings of Jean-François Julien: “His first vintage was 1999, 900 bottles made, aspiring right-bank vigneron-style, in his father-in-law’s garage, with a copy of the celebrated local oenologist Professor Émile Peynaud’s textbook in his hand.” Robert Parker adds that “The well-known Claude Gros is the consulting oenologist at this small garagiste operation in St.-Émilion. The average age of the vines is … get this … 100 years! …Gros was brought in late in 2002 and have overseen a steady rise in both quality and, alas, prices of La Fleur Morange since then.”
At OVER 70% OFF what it’s really worth, this is a collector’s dream come true. Tiny production means you have to work fast. Get to it!
93 Points – James Suckling “The La Fleur Morange is tight and focused red with plum, currant and light vanilla character. Medium to full body, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Just a hint of new wood on the finish. Give it time to come together more in the bottle. Try drinking in 2019.”
92 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous “The 2014 Fleur Morange is an attractive, mid-weight St.-Emilion. The flavors are quite bold and ripe, yet the wine retains a silky, mid-weight personality, with good energy and fine overall balance. Smoke, new leather, licorice and savory herb overtones linger on the close. The 2014 is approximately 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc that spent 30 days on the skins. New oak is 100%.”
