Mission Codename Pace car

Let’s go! An all-time favorite is back!

This Hawk and Horse Cabernet comes armed with their highest rating ever - 96 points from Tasting Panel.

And one of our lowest prices on their wines EVER.

Is this the best Cab they’ve made yet? Our magic 8-ball says, “most likely”.

Especially at today’s price. Trust your wine-addled scrivener - you cannot find a better Cabernet for $30. That’s a fact.

The 2019 and 2020 vintages of ‘Block Three’ is the stuff of lore. Always scoring BIG with the critics, and this one is no different.

Chances are you already know the story, but if you don’t, here’s the deal:

Dr. Richard Peterson makes the wine. Never heard of him? What about Heidi Barrett? Before Heidi Barrett, his daughter, broke onto the scene, it was Dr. Peterson who crafted the first four vintages of Screaming Eagle. He set the foundation for the mother of all cult Cabs. That’s not all. He also took André Tchelistcheff’s post at Beaulieu Vineyards while helping develop Atlas Peak Vineyards and presiding over institutions like the American Society for Enology & Viticulture. He’s an unsung hero in the industry.

Next, you have the Red Hills AVA. Just a few miles north of Howell Mountain you enter Lake County, where the land is cheap, but the terroir is prime. Rich volcanic soil and long, warm growing seasons provide a perfect place to raise top-quality Cabernet grapes. There’s a reason why visionaries like Schrader, Derenoncourt, and Beckstoffer have been quietly investing here.

Prepare for a frontal assault of blackcurrant, dark plums, and cherry coulis. Sweet tobacco, vanilla-laced mocha, and toasty cedar come into view and carry into a long finish framed by soft, fine tannins.

If you got some before, now is the time to re-load. And if you missed out, same logic applies because what we have here is ALL THAT’S LEFT.

96 Points – The Tasting Panel “This terrific Cabernet Sauvignon includes 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Sirah, showing the virtues of the great 2021 vintage in an age-worthy form with abundant oak accents. Baking spice aromas get it off to a great start, followed by flavors of blackberries and Bing cherries that contribute brightness to rich and deeply flavored red.”
