Mission Codename Strike a pose
“40 years of winemaking excellence and legacy In Napa Valley.” - Forbes
You’ve been asking - nay, DEMANDING!!
PEJU is back on the menu. Like McDonalds and the McRib, we deliver - albeit for a very, VERY limited time. Truthfully, we have two PEJU wins today, both extremely limited…
The Napa Valley winery is surely not “boutique” in size, but they remain one of the last (and largest) family owned wineries in the area. Probably in part because they know how to deliver what the people want, BIG, concentrated, complex reds from the verdant Napa Valley.
First up? Repose! A wine designated exclusively for their wine club members and not distributed or available (until now) outside the winery.
This combines about half Merlot and half Petit Verdot, slightly unconventional, but it sure works.
In the glass, it’s inky, dark as night, and impenetrable. A rustic and masculine expression, the Verdot brings a huge amount of purple flowers (lilac, violet) and dusty black plums. Black plums, blackcurrant, white pepper and some kind of 80% cocoa dark chocolate. It’s still fairly tightly wound JUGGERNAUT to be sure. With bold, sinewy tannins, it really shows best with a healthy decant and probably another few years spent with father time. And it will probably age at a glacial pace.
The 2018 vintage was one for the record books and this shows why. Per UK-based Decanter the vintage 2018 in Napa Valley “belongs in an echelon with the finest of the past two decades… the best wines show control, poise and transparency between vineyard and appellation.”
We concur, also that this fits the “best wines” category, without a speck of doubt. It’s a PEJU after all…
Get a couple and try them over the years - at this price how can you not? While it lasts.
There is another PEJU surprise lined up right after this sells out.
