Mission Codename Return of the King
Pinot people! We have one for all of you - whether you crave the raw power and extraction of a something like Kosta Browne or the pure elegance and finesse of the finest examples from Burgundy. This has it ALL, and the at nearly 60% OFF it’s in a league of its own.
Ever throw one of your old favorite movies back on and notice not only did it stand the test of time, but there’s all kinds of stuff you didn’t fully appreciate when you watched it way back when?
Well that’s how we felt after tasting this impeccable Deerfield Ranch Pinot. Were they always this good? How did we forget about this stuff?
For grizzled veteran Operatives with a few notches on their corkscrew, Deerfield is a familiar name. In fact, they held the crown for many years as Wine Spies all time best-selling winery.
And for good reason.
This picturesque winery is nestled in the heart of the Valley of the Moon - the center of Sonoma Valley. Sitting parallel to Rutherford and Oakville, if you went up and over Mt. Veeder from Napa and down Moon Mountain on the Sonoma side.
Proprietor Robert Rex a Berkeley trained chemist and winemaker of 50+ years has been working with Cecilia Valdivia (trained at the University of Mendoza) for 15 years.
She’s not the only involved in making this exquisite Pinot. You may know Michael Browne who served as Robert’s assistant winemaker while getting Kosta Browne off the ground. We don’t know for sure if George Lucas met Robert, but it would make sense where the inspiration for Yoda came from if he did.
That’s the type of caliber we’re dealing with here. This single vineyard gem is no exception. It’s exactly what you’re hoping for when you pop that burgundy shaped bottle. Perfectly Pinot-y with a deeply varietally correct expression of the grape, and a nose that just POPS with supercharged aromatics.
The crazy perfume leads straight into juicy and energetic flavors in the mouth. Ripe red raspberry, exotic baking spices, purple flowers, hibiscus and red currants and so much more. Even a little cured meat or savory umami mushrooms thing going on. AHHH! Crazy complexity and nuance that keeps you coming back to further explore with each sip.
Try your best to savor it if you can. It’s all too hard to drink slowly. That’s why you should pick up more than a few bottles. We’ll make it easy for you with a jaw-dropping price. With this kind of pedigree and drinking experience, it’s good deal at the $90 cellar door price tag. At the jaw dropping $39 you can score it for today, you’ll be kicking yourself after the first sip when you do the math and figure out you needed to get WAY more.
Do future you a favor and get at least one more bottle than you think you need. You won’t regret it, especially at this price that shall not be seen again.
But wait - It gets even better for all you close readers who made it this far. We managed to score this Pinot AND two other Deerfield fan favorites today - head over to Store now to get the full scoop and add to your collection.
