Mission Codename Screaming value
“That classic Oakville elegance, minerality, velvet texture, and tension are present in the finest, and, sorry to say, most expensive and rare bottlings of 2020 from Morlet Family, Screaming Eagle, and Harlan Estate. However, there are some great values to be found, such as Dalla Valle, Turnbull, Trois Noix, and Grand Napa.” – Decanter
Finally! After weeks of dry weather our dreams of epic pow days are coming into focus. And today’s price cut is as steep and deep as ‘The Fingers’ at Palisades after a major dumping.
Let’s rip into it, shall we?
One of the 4 top value picks with 92 points from Decanter. And there’s $110+ back in your pocket which surely counts for a point or two, no? Released at $160 and yours while it lasts for $44. This is exactly the big, inky Cab we’re bringing for our apres-ski belly warmer on Saturday.
This single vineyard gem comes from none other than the sacred heart of the Oakville AVA. Surrounded by expensive names you surely know: Opus One, Silver Oak and Cardinale. You can get a generous 6oz pour for any number of those for about the cost of this entire bottle.
Grand Napa has been on an upward trajectory since the beginning, making killer wines by sourcing fruit from some of the very best vineyard sites in Rutherford, Oakville, and St. Helena.
If you want a Cab with serious power, extraction, and a healthy dose of toasty French Oak, you will find what you need here.
Full-bodied, with a great sense of polish and deep red and black fruits. A soft mouthfeel and lower acidity carry a gentle current of plush, creme de cassis, black and red currants, and a handful of craisins drenched in blackberry jam. Graphite and well-worn leather-bound books, a whisper of sweet tobacco, a kiss of that dusty soil, and toasty oak fill the gaps and merge into a seamless and satisfying finish.
Easily one of Grand Napa’s best showings, and a total no-brainer if you’re looking for an Oakville Cab that delivers triple digit quality for way less.
92 Points – Decanter “From Grand Napa Vineyards, based in Rutherford, comes this Oakville-designate 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, which offers up a hedonistic rendition of this famous AVA. Ripe blueberry fruit, cocoa powder, and lavish oak aromas find some restraint on the palate of this full-bodied red with very present, if not sappy, tannins. The long finish is marked by tangy blood orange acidity and lingers through intriguing brown baking spices and dried herbs.”
