Mission Codename Dontcha ZZZ on it
Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription is more Mazzocco Zin!
So many Zinfandels come across our tasting table. And truly, some of the most popular with the Spies team (as well as with you, brilliant Operatives) has easily been from the Wilson Family. They have been CRUSHING it lately, and this 97-pointer is no exception.
“The secret is gorgeous grapes. We have amazing vineyards.” says Antoine Favero, Winemaker. So, MAZZOCCO. If you know, you know.
We have been lucky enough to feature a select few bangers from this flagship winery for the Wilson Family in the last few months. All of them awesome and all of them quick sell outs. But mind you, THIS isn’t just any Mazzocco, but a RESERVE from Aguilera, yet another perfect example of Dry Creek Zinfandel by the team we love.
At more than HALF off no less. It sure pays to have close friends in the industry… JUST SAYIN’!
Mazzocco is one of the most popular of the Wilson Artisan Wineries, a portfolio HUGE in popularity, locally and nationally, stacking best of this, best of that awards year after year since their humble beginnings in the early 1990s. With wines scoring 90+ points with Wine Spectator and that impeccable track record of literally hundreds of Gold Medals from competitions, they are unrivaled, just like their other acclaimed sister properties - Wilson Family, Matrix, Pezzi King, Rockpile, to name a few.
Serious Zin lovers ADORE Mazzocco. They jump at the chance to score any of the select few small production Reserves. Champagne-born winemaker Antoine Favero has been at the helm here since 2005, sharpening his reputation on Zinfandel. Sunset International awarded this beauty a Double Gold medal alongside a well-deserved 97 Points!
BIG, jammy, and ripe - just how you like it! The antithesis of a wimpy wine, it’s not for the faint of heart. Dripping with brambly fruit, think huckleberries, black cherries, and raspberries. Heck, it’s like a fragrant mixed berry pie in a bottle. Throw in a little vanilla, chewy toffee, Cuban coffee, and a little sweet spice, too. For us, this is the ultimate Spring BBQ wine and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Every Mazzocco Zin we have ever featured flew out the door so don’t sit around today. Don’t let the last few cases of this one slip away!
