Retired race car professional and fitness influencer, Danica Patrick is a force to be reckoned with. She is a dreamer and a doer, no doubt. After falling in love with Napa Valley and wine, she purchased a small property hidden in the switchbacks of the Vaca Mountains below Howell Mountain, which is now a part of Napa’s hottest and newest AVA, Crystal Springs.

The 22-acre property is truly a “dream,” thus the name Somnium. Managed by some of the best in the industry, the property boasts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Verdot and a CCOF organic certification. This area is known for rustic mountainous terrain, which equates to intense and well-structured wines.

If the epic vineyard was not enough to make an outstanding brand, Patrick decided to work with the legendary Julien Fayard who has so many 100-point wines under his belt. We are big fans of this guy here at Wine Spies. I mean, did you see his interview during the last marathon?!

This 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% estate fruit and was picked before the Glass Fire did its damage. It was the only wine made that year from this estate and there is sooooo little of it to go around.

As you can imagine with this illustrious team, the wine is simply outstanding. An intoxicating array of deep, dark fruit on the nose is matched with layered baking spices and fresh cedar. The palate bursts with ripe blackberry and currants with coco nibs and the loveliest notes of rosemary and Thai mint. The tannins are lush and perfectly integrated into a velvety texture. This is a wine for the finest of dinner tables, seriously! An impressive showing and a great pairing with juicy steaks.
