Mission Codename Testa rosso
What happens when you give a 100pt winemaker the complete freedom to make a wine they want to drink?
Hint: It’s not usually a Napa Cabernet.
Sure, you might know Rebekah Wineburg from her flat out sexy, come-hither, 100-point Quintessa wines.
But today we’re heading in an entirely different direction and sharing her passion project - Post & Vine.
If you’ve been around the Instagram wine circles, or hung out at local shops in Napa like Outer Space Wines (where I happened to run into her and spark this deal) you might have been lucky enough to try these. And in that case, you’re not even reading this because you know what’s up.
And the best part? Aside from how dang delicious the wine is?
The price.
NINETEEN DOLLARS. People, please. At this jaw-dropper of a price the only concern is having enough for everyone to try. Mind you, I already stashed six, with heavy restraint to refrain from multiple cases. We simply don’t have that much given only 252 cases were made.
But man, If I could remotely attach to your nervous system and guide your hand to the checkout, I’d do it. One by one. Until every one of you had a bottle.
What’s it like? Terrifyingly easy to drink, for one. Juicy. Fresh.
Made from a blend of Carignane (41%), Zinfandel (38%), Petite Sirah (21%) it’s fresh, vibrant and juicy. Per Rebeka’s site “Fruit for our Old Vine Field Blend comes from 60-year-old (average), head-trained vines rooted in rocky, well-draining soils in the heart of Mendocino County.” Juicy pomegranate and red raspberry whips, a dusting of sweet baking spice and a whisper of windswept herbs. Gorgeous acidity gives it some lift, and you can enjoy this with or without food equally. Although personally I’m letting a few balls of NY pizza dough proof on the counter to enjoy with it tonight.
If you don’t buy some of this, there’s just no hope for you. And if you’re on the fence, do not wait long because this is a one and done deal.
