Mission Codename Fierce
Among the usual stacked lineup of Napa Cabs last week, a few standouts rose to the top.
This shined.
I know what you’re thinking - “I have too much Napa Cabernet”.
But do you have enough ATLAS PEAK Cab?! From a near-perfect 2019 vintage? That’s just cruising into a perfect drinking window?
Probably not. And besides, having too much Napa Cab is one of the best first world problems to have, right?
Plus, you’re getting an EPIC value here. $130 at the winery puts it right in line with most other Atlas Peak Cabs.
But at $42?! Nope, not a typo. It’s completely detached from the mooring, where it once sat anchored with similarly “great but pricey” options. Now it occupies a clear and utterly compelling spotlight, and the only question you need to consider is “how many”. Decide soon before it’s lost to sea forever…
Savage Cellars is a producer who works with the best of the best, all around. Their impossibly high standards extend from the vineyards to the cellar, and you can taste it in the bottle. They source sustainably grown fruit from the best vintners and contract different winemakers who know the fruit inside and out and lend their expertise to the project. The winemaker here has been working in Atlas Peak than most Spies have been legally able to drink and the experience shines through in the wine.
In the glass it’s a beauty, Clark. A beauty, I tell ya! Rich, ripe, and structured. It delivers the goods, LAVISHLY spiced, with dusted lavender, silky smooth creme de cassis, black cherries, and blackberry jam at the core. Shaved baking chocolate, mission fig, and fine-grained, but silky smooth tannins hold it together and carry into a lengthy, smooth finish.
You want to spend $85 to $150+ for an Atlas Peak Cabernet? Go right ahead. It might not be 100-points good, but it’s a solid 94-95 in my book and will put a big smile on your face at our price.
Heck, I’m about to scoop another four more bottles, stat!
