Mission Codename BioD
Ooooohh! Fresh and fabulous! It is rare for a Chianti Classico to really blow our socks off. We’ve been lucky enough to taste quite a few in our day. This one did it though.
“Che bello!”
Beautiful indeed! Made by Serena Gusmeri, the vineyard property is highly regarded in the heart of Chianti Classico with lineage going back to ancient times under the same name. In 2000, the property became a part of Italy’s first Organic district, focusing on sustainable practices and biodiversity of the land. Each bottling expresses the unique terroir found there.
This expression is unlike any Chianti Classico we’ve had in recent memory. Grown on a hilltop where fruit can gain all the ripeness it deserves, this wine is deep and concentrated. It dances that perfect balance of big and elegant, too. Which is hard to do!
With solid scores from your favorite reviewers, this is a no brainer under $30. 94 Points Vinous, 93 from Wine Spectator and 92 from Wine Enthusiast.
Talk about a big wine! “A wine of uncommon power,” says Vinous. Lush and intense, the 2018 vintage is a mélange of fruit, dark and broody with playful spice and herb to round out the expansive palate. Think blackberries, warms spices and freshly tanned leather. Absolutely gorgeous!
And like the other gems today in our store take over, there is only so much! Be quick. Be decisive. Future you will thank you.
94 Points— Vinous “The 2018 Chianti Classico is fabulous. Rich, deep and wonderfully expansive, the 2018 is captivating from the very first taste. A rush of blue/blackish fruit, spice, new leather, licorice and dark spice saturates the palate. In 2018, the Chianti Classico is deep and especially concentrated, but it all works so well. Readers will find a wine of uncommon power, intensity and richness. The 2018 is a big wine, there is no question about it, and yet the 15% alcohol is not especially evident.”
93 Points— Wine Spectator “A rich, fleshy red, with rusty, iron aromas complementing black cherry and blackberry flavors backed by substantial tannins. While this tightens up on the lingering finish, there is nevertheless a beam of concentrated fruit. 700 cases imported. Drink now through 2033.”
