Mission Codename Going places
It’s a Friday APPY HOUR with “a display of coastal opulence” per Decanter.
Looking for a Kistler-killer? Something to put the Marcassins and Auberts on their heels? Or maybe you just want to revisit one of our favorite Chardonnays from last year? This topped the list for many of our Agents and Ops, and remains not just one of our favorites from last year but perhaps all time.
It’s that good.
And the new vintage lives up to the hype. WAYFARER!! With 96 points, it’s everything you want and then some in a Chardonnay.
Without spending deep triple digits?
This is the ticket. MAGICAL stuff. Chardonnay simply does not get much better - at this price, it might be the undisputed champ.
The complimentary Pinot Noir we offered recently was divine. But this? It’s on another level. Everything dialed to 11 and held in such perfect balance - the fruit, the oak, the acid. It’s like an MC Escher drawing where you can’t tell where one part ends and another begins.
Discovered by Helen Turley, envisioned by Jason and Cleo Pahlmeyer, planted by David Abreu, articulated by Bibiana González Rave, and last but not least, made by Todd Kohn. Wayfarer is the pursuit of perfection in true coastal Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and without a doubt, it’s long reached that destination.
So, when we say JUMP on this at the best price you will ever see it at, we MEAN drop everything you are in the middle of, stuff up your Lockers, and check the bleep out as fast as you can. Once you secured what you can, you can catch up with the latest on Wayfarer here.
We’d regale you with all the tasting notes, but we can’t do much better than below; you get the idea. Shuffle your finances, donate a kidney or some plasma, and set up a lemonade stand (pro tip: give it out for free and ask for a “donation”, you’ll make more $$). Do whatever you must to get a bottle or three.
And yes, Mom, I secured several bottles of my own to share this summer.
96 Points – Decanter “This is a display of coastal opulence. An outstanding Chardonnay bottling from Wayfarer’s Fort-Ross Seaview estate vineyard. A selection of three different clones, this wine ferments with gross lees for about 15 months in oak. 100% malolactic fermentation, 52% new oak, you get a sense of the cool growing season and the ripeness achieved towards harvest. Rich, honeyed ginger aromas, beeswax, and salty sea air communicate a cool minerality. The palate is intensely fruited, with grilled pineapple, smoky grilled lemon and honeyed ginger depth. Mineral salinity and smoky stone elements frame it all in a gorgeous structure and long-lasting finish. - a remarkable Chardonnay. Drink 2024-2043.”
