“These wines are terrific.” – Vinous

Like Darth Maul pulling out the dual lightsaber. It’s completely unfair to the competition.

Umm, at this price? What competition!

Bo or Heidi, usually ONE Barrett is plenty to cause a frenzy. Few even know this even exists. Arguably the most DANGEROUS collaboration project in all of Napa Valley, between Bo Barrett, behind Chateau Montelena, and Heidi Barrett behind, well, you know…

Too bad they make VERY little, and therefore very, VERY few insiders scoop it all up in record time.

So here is how this wine came about, per Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “Bo and Heidi Barrett have turned out fabulous Cabernet Sauvignons. Readers may recall the Barretts started their own label when it looked like Château Cos d’Estournel was about to purchase Chateau Montelena a few years ago. That transaction never closed, but it did result in the creation of this impressive new project.”

Vinous adds, “Heidi Barrett describes Barrett & Barrett as bringing together Bo’s approach to farming and her work in the cellar, but in my view, the wines don’t really resemble anything either of them is making elsewhere… The Barrett & Barrett Cabernet is made predominantly from a parcel of dry-farmed vines on Toll Road in Calistoga new Jericho Canyon (where the wines are physically made) plus Saunders in Oakville, which is the source of the Cabernet Franc.”

What’s more, is the 8 years this beauty had to age and get even more ethereal than it had ever been, with sufficient oomph and complexity in there to continue to improve for a long, long time.

Yet life is short, so is the supply. Spoil yourself, you deserve it.

94 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous “The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon comes across as quite delicate in 2017. Bright red-toned fruit, spice, cedar and pipe tobacco all lend notable brightness. In most vintages, the Barrett & Barrett has been a pretty somber, muscular wine, but the 2017 is decidedly gracious to the point of being understated. It is a very pretty wine… Drink 2027-2052.”

93+ Points – Jeb Dunnuck “The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a bigger, more structured wine. Lots of ripe black cherries, currants, graphite, sandalwood, and dried herb notes define the bulk of the bouquet, and this puppy hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, the more straight, focused style of the vintage, and firmer, yet polished tannins. It’s a classic, age-worthy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with lots to like.”
