Mission Codename Monarch
Three Sticks! Only our second wine from them, and after months of begging and pleading and hard negotiating, we finally landed a small parcel to share with you.
The 96-point Wine Enthusiast review appropriately capped off by a two word description: “sexy stuff”.
No doubt about it. This is a Pinot lovers fantasy, at a price that seems more fitting for a dream than reality.
Three Sticks has quickly risen to become one of Sonoma’s most sought-after producers. Sourcing fruit from top vineyards like Durell and Gap’s Crown helps. So does having Bob Cabral as winemaker. He led the charge at Williams Selyem for years, making countless high-scoring Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, he carries the same expertise straight into these wines.
Take it from Wine Spectator to define greatness: “A diverse mix of high-quality estate vineyards. An experienced production team. A driven owner.” Couple that with an outstanding vintage, and you have all the trappings of an ultra-premium Pinot right here at your fingertips - assuming you can click fast enough to secure some.
We’ve had a string of fantastic Pinots coming through lately but this might take the crown. It’s damn near perfect - loaded up with juicy, ripe fruit, rippling with acidity, and cascading layers of complexity. Ripe black cherries, rhubarb pie, crumbled cinnamon crust and all, with spices, forest floor, and a fantastic bit of some kind of soy-jerky/umami all up in there for your enjoyment. There’s no doubt this is BRILLIANT stuff!
96 points - Wine Enthusiast “Aromas of salted caramel, sweet cherry pie, raspberry lollipop and lemon zest mingle on the nose of this elegant and well-structured Pinot. The palate feels seamlessly plush and juicy, with a lovely streak of lemon-raspberry acidity and hints of black tea from whole-cluster fermentation running right through the middle. Sexy stuff.”
