Mission Codename Myth or Masterpiece?
A hidden gem. A diamond in the rough. A cellar-door secret. – Sonoma Magazine
All of these are true of today’s black fruited beast. Highly complex with toast, baking spice, and the right touch of earthiness, this blend achieves the perfect balance of raw and refined.
When Phil Staehle founded Enkidu Wines, he didn’t name it after a noble château or a hillside vineyard. He named it after a wild man.
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu is a primal being – born of the earth, untamed, deeply connected to nature. And that’s the guiding spirit behind their wine: authentic, terroir-driven, and free from the ego-driven flash of glitzy estates that often speak more to the owner’s wealth than the wine’s quality.
That philosophy runs deep – from the minimalist winemaking to the mountain-grown Cabernet sourced from high-elevation vineyards in Sonoma’s rugged interior. These sites’ poor soils yield fruit with power, poise, and purity – the kind of raw material commands exponentially more money if, say, it was to come from the Napa County side of the same mountain….
Enkidu remains one of the best-kept secrets in California wine. It’s a label locals know, but few beyond the inner circle have discovered. The wines fly quietly under the radar, snapped up by those in-the-know and rarely seen outside the tasting room… until now.
The Enkidu 2021 ‘Ansar’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a polished gem – a rare barrel selection bottling that earned a massive 94 points from Wine Enthusiast!
That kind of balance – power with grace – traces back to Phil’s earliest days under the tutelage of Rick Graff, founder of Chalone and one of California’s true wine visionaries. Graff taught restraint. Respect for the vineyard. A Burgundian mindset, even when working with Bordeaux grapes. You’ll taste that legacy here.
Only 6 barrels made. Mountain fruit from some of the best high-elevation vineyards in Sonoma, hand-crafted, and built to cellar for a decade or more. Yet today, thanks to our covert connections, you can snag this insider’s cult Cab for a fraction of what it would cost on the open market – over 60% off!
Nature may have tamed Enkidu in myth. But in a bottle? He’s never been more powerful.
Stock up now and spread the word that this myth is real!!!
94 Points – Wine Enthusiast “Toasty cocoa aromas mingle with notes of cassis, tart black cherry and graphite on the nose of this classically structured Cabernet. On the palate, the richness of barrel spice melds seamlessly with juicy plum, blackberry and licorice flavors before raspberry-lemon acidity drives the finish home.”
