Mission Codename Ursa Major
We’ve NEVER offered a Beckstoffer Georges III under $99 before. This one however? It’s not $98, or $89… or even in the $60-70 range. Clocking in at under $60 means we’re going full CLASSIFIED with it.
Nor could we ever do this openly. These wines come with pesky “minimum” pricing requirements straight from the vineyards. And frankly, there’s a good justification for that.
If we exposed the label, publishing this dossier would cost us our livelihood. Plus, it’s the only way we can bring you a $175 wine for $59… - that’s even deeper than a buy one get three deal.
For obvious reasons, these wines can be so good, so scarce, or so exclusive that they must hide behind a closely guarded veil of secrecy. You rarely, if ever, see these bottles at a discount. And because some wineries are very price-sensitive, their mailing list members would go ballistic seeing a deep deal on it.
Unless…
We roll it out über-top-secret, black ops mission style.
Revealing the name would put our livelihood at stake. Our industry is built on relationships and not wanting to ruffle feathers; sometimes, it’s a necessary precaution to redact some of the information.
HOWEVER, we can drop a couple of major clues, and the savviest of you may figure it out. In fact, even the least savvy of you will probably figure this one out…we’re making it easy today.
The first one is in the name. One of the most heralded vineyards not only in Napa but also in all of California. Schrader’s very own GIII, for instance, will set you back $400-500 a bottle. As it should.
Next clue, massive 97 points by an unnamed (to protect the innocent) reputable publication that went gaga over the “layers of dark, concentrated fruit” within which “plush, refined tannins offer a smooth and velvety texture” thanks to the most sought-after block within this legendary site. The fact that the name behind this wine has access to that fruit is the biggest clue in itself for the savvy to get.
Did we mention it’s only available direct at $175? Not that it really matters as it will sell out soon, but did you figure it out yet? Still stumped? Head over to the Facebook group and check out the latest posts - crowdsource the answer…
One last clue before we’re bombarded with either dead-on guesses or death threats. Only two barrels made. As in around just 50 cases. Which is more than what we have to offer, sadly.
We risked a lot to get this one up… Now it’s your turn.
