Mission Codename Howdy, Nabor!
His Radian Pinot is now SOLD OUT - understandably…
But we have more Dusty for the day, like this INSANELY INTENSE FLAGSHIP Chardonnay!
Not sure what they were thinking with 91 points really, this one hits the mid-90s for our collective palate, in all honesty.
Because, with an easy smile, Dusty Nabor moves with a confidence that’s impossible not to like. We first met Dusty a few years ago at a tasting in Paso. His wines were outstanding. His demeanor friendly, humble, and chill. And if you had the Los Olivos Cab we offered a while back, you already have a glimpse at the quality, which is through the roof.
Today we have not one, but one of FOUR wines (well, one down) from one of our favorite small, independent producers around. All of them powerhouse efforts.
Dusty has had quite the career. Despite his youthful appearance, he has been a professional motorcross rider, poker player, race car driver, golfer, and triathlete – all while continuing to work at his family’s steel distribution company. Wow… He could possibly rival our Agent Red for the title “Most Interesting Man in the World”!
Dusty’s winery, started in 2015, was born out of the same passion he brings to everything in life. A self-taught winemaker, he is quick to credit a few mentors, including Matt Dees (the Hilt), Nile Zacherle (David Aurthur), and Paul Frankel (Sculpterra). Once you pop the cork on this taut, mineral-driven Chardonnay, with complex oak spice and silken texture, his uncanny skill is on full display.
Not open to the public. Not stocked up on the wine shelves of your local grocery. Not something you’d ever likely be lucky enough to come across. Until NOW that is!
This is the first Chardonnay of the DNW-SRH series. It is Dusty’s top bottling, a barrel selection including fruit from Radian Vineyard, Hilltop Vineyard, and Vineyard Francesca, among the most sought-after Chardonnay of the appellation. It’s a barrel selection of his favorites, blended to make the best wine, as he says, “that I can come up with regardless of vineyard source.”
As for the vintage, 2023 was phenomenal in Sta. Rita Hills. It was cooler than usual, even for the already chilly region. Low yields and a long, steady growing season let fruit ripen slowly without relying on the usual late heat spike, developing deep flavors. It was absolutely ideal for cool-climate-loving Chardonnay. Harvest never got too hot, allowing precise picking – conditions were similar to Burgundy’s great years like 1985 and 1999!
But wait – more than 60% off?! Time to stock up, neighbor!
91-Points – Wine Enthusiast “Showing a slight haze in the glass, this bottling pairs crushed rock and citrus peel aromas with rounder hints of pear and apple on the nose. The palate is sharp with fierce acidity and strong flavor of both citrus peel and flesh.”
