Mission Codename Like a good Nabor...
Not one, not two, but FOUR wines available from one of our favorite small, independent producers in California?! That’s right. Dusty Nabor is in the house!
One of the two Chardonnays, this one is truly something special. Vineyard Francesca is in the western reaches of the Sta. Rita Hills, just up Sweeney Road from Domaine de la Cote’s famed Juliet vineyard ($220+ per bottle, if you can find it!). It’s exposure to winds off the Pacific imbue the grapes with a savory salinity and cool-climate freshness. Opening the bottle, its aromas of pear, quince, and oyster shells presaged the wine’s linear precision and focus. Fresh, citrusy, and loaded with minerality, it’s reminiscent of Chablis in the best way while retaining its own distinct identity.
At today’s price? More than half off?! Let’s just say that we’re buying cases – and you should too!
We first met Dusty a few years ago at a tasting in Paso. His wines were outstanding. His demeanor friendly, humble, and chill. And if you had the Los Olivos Cab we offered a while back, you already have a glimpse at the quality – it’s sky high!
A true Renaissance man, in his youth he raced motorcross, before going on to be a professional poker player, racecar driver, golfer, and triathlete – the hole time working as an executive at his family’s steel distribution company. Born out of the same passion he brings to absolutely everything in life, he started the winery in 2015. A self-taught winemaker, he is quick to credit a few mentors, including Matt Dees (the Hilt), Nile Zacherle (David Aurthur), and Paul Frankel (Sculpterra).
Not open to the public. Not stocked up on the wine shelves of your local grocery. Not something you’d ever likely be lucky enough to come across. Until NOW that is!
Also, of note – the 2023 vintage was phenomenal in Sta. Rita Hills. It was cooler than usual, even for the already chilly region. Low yields and a long, steady growing season let fruit ripen slowly without relying on the usual late heat spike, developing deep flavors. It was absolutely ideal for cool-climate-loving Chardonnay. Harvest never got too hot, allowing precise picking – conditions were similar to Burgundy’s great years like 1985 and 1999!
The time is now. Stock up on all four wines… they won’t last long!!!
93-Points – Wine Enthusiast “Lime zest, leaf and blossom aromas meet with crushed chalk and the faint smell of butter on the nose of this bottling. The firm tension of the palate plays against the lime peel and wet riverstone flavors.”
