Mission Briefing

A complex and intriguing wine that beings a little tight and reserved, this wine really springs to life after some decanting - or some energetic swirling.

If you love Chianti, you’ll find this wine to deliver a classic yet robust experience that delights the senses with dark aromas and bright, delicious flavors. There is an Old World earthiness to this lovely 2007 Petronius Chianti Classico that takes a little urging to coax it to life, but the patient swirler will be rewarded handsomely.

An easy and flexible companion for many foods, we recommend pairing this wine with a creamy Fettuccine Alfredo with pancetta or an assortment of hard cheeses.

Tasting Profile

Deep and dark with a crimson body and a slightly opaque heart. Legs take a while to emerge, before taking on a slow-moving plumpness.

Woodsy and loaded with dark fruit, this wine really smoothes out as you allow it to breathe. Once it opens up, it reveals black cherry, red cherry, dusty barnyard, leather, spice and oak.

Very earthy, with briar patch, underripe plum, red cherry, and bright tart red fruit in the lead. Allow the wine to open, and it reveals subtle dark stone fruit, leather and soft spice.

A long and lingering finish with a tart sweetness and fruit that slowly fades while tannins spread a soft dryness to the cheeks and lips.

A fabulous food wine, we recommend pairing this with a creamy Fettuccine Alfredo with pancetta or an assortment of hard cheeses.

What the Winery Says

This wine displays brilliant garnet color with notes of bright cherry and red plum with hints of anise and wild herbs. Well structured with supple tannins and a long finish.

The grapes were hand-harvested during the first week of October. Following a soft pressing, the juice was fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks for six to eight days. The must was pumped over four times a day with the required délestage fermentation which gently extracts its phenolic (color & mouthfeel) compounds. Thirty percent of the wine was aged in French oak barriques and the remaining 70% transferred to stainless steel tanks for 12 months. Bottle-aged for two months.
