Mission Codename Leap bleep
Drumroll… 🥁 PINE RIDGE!
Another round of drumroll… 🥁 take $150 retail then wax on, wax off that price until it shines to a much nicer looking $89.
And then toss in a couple 97 points!
Top of the line, pure Stags Leap bliss… Best price anywhere again?!
This is part of their “best of” series sourcing from the top sites in the legendary appellations of Napa, it’s one of five total in this distinguished series. Yet this one truly stands out, as 100% Estate fruit from the vineyards that started Pine Ridge nearly a half century ago.
Some of the neighboring legends include Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Regusci, Hartwell, Realm, Joseph Phelps, Odette by Plumpjack… The list goes on and on. But you know we’re talking CABERNET HEAVEN here.
And what about the winemaking? Josh Widaman is a name you may have heard of, from his work at Lewis Cellars back to 2012, along with prior stints at Pahlmeyer and Chimney Rock. Among his big accomplishments are making a Wine Spectator #1 Wine of the Year and countless high scores across all press. He recently took on Pine Ridge, so this 2022 is only his second vintage. And if this wine is any indicator, the future is VERY bright.
Tom Hyland for Forbes recites the legacy best: “It’s a bit of a new golden age for Napa Valley these days. While wines have been produced here since the mid-19th century, I think of the first golden age as the period between the mid-to-late 1960s to the late 1970s, when the visionaries like Robert Mondavi, Sterling, Heitz Cellar, and a few dozen others began crafting Cabernet, which is king in Napa Valley, and these brought worldwide recognition to California wine. One of those who began with Cabernet in the late 1970s was Pine Ridge… The wines today are beautifully crafted, and I’m positive that Gary Andrus would be proud of what his successors have accomplished.”
If you’re into blue chip Napa Cabs, don’t let this one get away.
97 Points – The Tasting Panel “Energetic and earth-laden, with suede tannins that carry weight. The mouth is lathered with mulberry, sweet earth, spearmint, graphite, and cherrywood-cedar. Its broad shoulders are balanced on fresh acidity, with a refined finish of violets and black plum compote.”
97 Points – James Suckling “Aromas of blackcurrants, graphite, cedar, bitter chocolate and burnt citrus. The palate is full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a plush and seamless mouthfeel, showing flavors of graphite, baking spices, and blood plums. A really tightly wound, focused, and pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink or hold.”
