Mission Codename Arise... still drunk
By POPULAR demand, ÖÖMGRANG is back!
We’re the first to offer anything from their critically acclaimed 2023 vintage. These wines have been discovered since we first offered them a year ago, making the rounds, and earning well deserved love across the land.
And today you’re at the front of the line to get this - their 94 POINT KERNER - and the rest of the 2023 lineup, at a brain-tingling discount.
Our first offering of Öömrang had our servers running hot, as it broke a company record, becoming the MOST POPULAR wine ever sold on our site. One sip - nay! One whiff is all it takes to know these whites will deliver something extraordinary to all 7,543 taste buds on your tongue. It might even activate some long-lost ones for all we can tell.
But you already know this, judging by past purchases…
Check out these comments from the Facebook group (which you should be a part of if you aren’t already).
You’ll find plenty of hype about our first Öömrang if you search:
“Very easy to drink” “Ooomrang? More like OMG!” “Huge crowd-pleasing potential”
Well, we heard you! So, we went back to the winery and begged for more!
Word is out, and critics have been gracing these wines with lavish praise. From earning Double Golds and judge’s hearts at the Las Vegas Global Awards, to pulling rank at the Food and Beverage Proof Awards and garnering recognition at a personal favorite, the San Francisco International Wine Competition. And let’s not forget the mid 90s scores across the board!
So, what makes this Washington producer’s whites so enchanting? Besides our price, which clocks in at $22?
I mean, few people outside the geekiest of slurpy Somms even know of these grapes. Kerner? Müller-Thurgau? Siegerrebe and Sylvaner?
Luckily Edmund and Christine Stoecklein knew about them. They moved from New York to Washington State in 2016. Edmund was born in Germany, and so were Christine’s parents. With a fond attachment to their homeland, they started planting these native Germanic grapes on some prime land in Puget Sound, overlooked by the Cascades and Olympic Mountains. We’re pretty sure nobody outside of Deutschland (and few within its borders) do justice to these varieties like Öömrang does.
And while we have their Kerner taking center stage, with don’t forget, the remainder of their lineup is well stocked in our store.
For the geeks among us, here’s the scoop on this one, from the writer behind openingabottle.com:
“Kerner is the only grape variety that I am aware of that is named after a famous drinking-songs poet — the illustrious Justinus Kerner (“with a name like Justinus, he must be illustrious!”). In 1929, the grape was conceived by August Herold, a plant breeder who decided to put Riesling and Schiava on a blind date. When their love child demonstrated a knack for delicious wine, Mr. Herold decided to name it after Mr. Kerner. (He once wrote a poem entitled Wohlauf, noch getrunken which translates as “Arise, still drunk”).”
Öömrang is on the downlow in comparison. The intel by local independent publications like Great Northwest Wine praise the whole operation and Sip Magazine talking up “unique German grape varietals, including ones rare in the Pacific Northwest like Siegerrebe and Muller-Thurgau and the almost-unfindable Kerner and Sylvaner. If you are looking for a bottle to enjoy, currently Öömrang features a range of sunshine-y approachable whites.” Add in the Winery of the Year for 2023 and the Century Award from Pr%f Magazine and a solid 94 from the Tasting Panel.
Approachable at $65 and irresistible at our $22! Stock up on this one and be sure to check the store for the rest of the Öömrang line up.
Each varietal is unique and well worth the price. There’s not a better wine to be had for that turkey dinner coming up - get some!
