A Nicolas-Joseph Marey bought Romanée-Saint-Vivant in 1791; later leasing it to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti until they purchased it in 1988. That same family established the Clos Marey-Monge at Château de Pommard in 1795, becoming its own estate.

So, the lineage of these two wines in the store today, their micro-cuvees from precise ‘lieu dit’ terroirs, or tiny plots that show specificity within distinct soils top and sub, microclimates, aspects, etc, that set them apart just like the bigger picture ‘climats’ throughout the rest of the Côte d’Or.

Black-plum and red-cherry flavors are boldly concentrated, lifted by hints of violet perfume and a firm acidic spine. Anchored by fine-grained but densely packed tannins, the wine should improve through 2030.”

The palate is smooth, translucent, vivid, but the finish shows an ample ripeness and generosity. This has really caught all the sunlight of 2019 but finishes with lovely freshness and full-fruited length.”
