Mission Codename Sultan of Structure
This one is going to knock you into next week. When it lands on your doorstep claw your way through that box and rip out a bottle and prepare to be AWESTRUCK.
This is a library release by the King of Cab himself, Russell Bevan.
That’s right, the Sultan of Structure, the Baron of Boldness, the Monarch of Mouthfeel.
Introducing the Lerner Project.
When the Lerner’s decided to embark on this project Stu Lerner said, “I’ve had a passion for Napa Valley wines for such a long time that if I was ever to make my own, I wanted to try to make the best wine in the world.” And honestly, he called the right guy!
With countless 100 Point wines under his belt, Russell Bevan knows his way around Cult Napa Cab! And this gem of a find with almost a decade in the winery cellar down to under $100 today where it’s never been seen before?! With a highly conservative 96 Points?! Bam!
Our business is built on precious and delicate relationships which is why we ran this beauty as a classified offer about a month ago. For those that were smart enough to trust us, you win and saved a few bucks. The winery was so pleased with our offering and our Operatives were beyond happy so we’re at it again!
As with many of Bevan’s masterpieces, this wine comes from three epic sites almost synonymous with his name. Tench Vineyard is neighbor to none other than Screaming Eagle. And Sugarloaf enjoys extended hang times leading to that show-stopping, ripe, juicy, and soft style that Bevan is known for! The last one is the Lerner’s own Armstrong Ranch which sits high atop Diamond Mountain. But this is pretty much his flagship project, one which he puts 110% effort and focus into. Not some side gig, or consulting label where these kind of rockstar winemakers so often sign on the line, pass off the majority of work to an assistant, and move along their way.
We weren’t the only ones impressed with the way this beauty danced across our palates with a stunning balance of bold concentration and lithe finesse. Jeb Dunnuck gave it 96 points and noted how it’s “endowed with serious depth, power and structure.”
Legend has it that their proprietor said to his partner and winemaker Russell Bevan, as they decided to launch this label, “if I’m going to do this, the one thing we will never do is compromise on quality.”
Before trouble finds us, one final press quote that praises this project righteously, “Prices are high but so is the quality… The easiest way to be sure to get some of these exciting wines is by signing up for the mailing list, as distribution outside of that appears extremely limited.”
Heard that, you lucky Ops?
Oh, did we mention the original $200 down to $99?! Act quickly as we only have a bit left to
96 Points— Jeb Dunnuck “A broader, more expansive wine, the 2016 RMS Red Wine is equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc brought up in new oak. It offers a full-bodied, powerful yet surprisingly elegant style to go with sumptuous notes of blackcurrants, blueberries, chocolate, graphite, and earthy minerality. With a great mid-palate, sweet tannins, and terrific concentration, it’s another gem from this lineup.”
94 Points— Vinous “The 2016 Red Wine RMS is endowed with serious depth, power and structure. Cabernet Sauvignon from Tench and Merlot from Sugarloaf marry beautifully here. Black plum, bittersweet chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice, and espresso are front and center. The 2016 is a big, powerful wine. Even with all of its intensity, though, the 2016 retains terrific freshness.”
93 Points— Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Red Wine RMS is a blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Franc and has an earthy nose with notes of tires, asphalt and licorice with a core of crème de cassis, baked plums and blueberry compote plus touches of tea and tobacco. The palate is full-bodied, lively and concentrated with firm, chewy tannins and a long earthy finish. 376 cases produced.”
