Mission Codename BRB? No, TRB!
Hi Shibumi! It’s Wine Spies here, our Ops have been enjoying your delicious Chardonnays for over a year now, but when will that red wine allocation come that you said might one da___? Click. They just did not want to hear that question after we hit them up 43 times! Or was it 44? Either way, one thing was clear: one more time and they would not talk to us, period. That’s how highly allocated these wines are.
Thanks to the “Midas Touch” of Thomas Rivers Brown.
That Wine Spectator article adorning the man with a title so well deserved, explains; “Some of the brands Brown works with go back to his start. He assumed duties at Chiarello and Outpost from Jordan when the latter moved to Turley Cellars. Casa Piena, GTS, Shibumi Knoll and Maybach became clients in the early 2000s. Among the more recent additions are Revana, Round Pond, Vermeil, Stone the Crows, Pulido Walker, Riverain, and Ampere…” And that was 7 years ago, add Schrader, Elusa… the list grows every year with his fame.
Founded by Joann and Don Ross, a NASA engineer for the Apollo Lunar Landing Project (gulp), Shibumi Knoll is the poster child for having all the means in the world to buy into a prime enclave in Napa Valley, and stumble upon an obligation to make the best wine possible with it. Which included neighbors like Vineyard 29 and Turley to paint the picture better.
A few cases of their Cabernet and Pinot are being offered as part of our Cyber Monday marathon today, at prices that would get us in TRouBle if they were to make it out there. So, snag what you can fast… and please hush. We don’t want them to “Knoll” that we’re letting go of these so affordably.
Shhh – boom – eek!
95 Points – The Wine Palate “The 2022 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is medium ruby-purple in color. Notes of red currant jelly and kirsch skip out of the glass, followed by hints of cinnamon stick and underbrush. The medium to full-bodied palate is plush and expressive with a lively line and herbal lift on the finish. Drink 2025-2032.”
