Mission Codename The Perfectionist
Another Wine Spies First - HUNDRED ACRE.
Pure perfection from Jayson Woodbridge!! He has a larger-than-life persona, which matches his wines.
He walked away from investment banking to pursue an obsession: making the most uncompromising Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley. Robert Parker called him the “Howard Hughes of wine,” and with 34 perfect scores since the inaugural vintage, Hundred Acre has earned full-blown cult status, one perfect score at a time. Today, they’re an undisputed champ in the ring of big-shot Napa Cabs, just like the gold-dipped ring adorning each bottle.
The Kayli Morgan Vineyard sits at the base of Howell Mountain, where chocolatey clay soils crack as summer deepens, driving roots down to pull up distinctive minerals. The 2018 scored two 100 points from Falstaff, and Wine Advocate that describes it as “a hands-down, jaw-dropping beauty”, packed with cassis, wild blueberries, candied violets, and a plush texture that finishes with what they call “a dazzling display of minerals and floral fireworks.”
Sorry, just like those fireworks, this too will go fast.
100 Points – Wine Advocate “Sporting an opaque garnet-purple color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard needs a fair bit of coaxing to unlock fabulously evocative notions of pure cassis, ripe, juicy black plums and wild blueberries, plus suggestions of candied violets, cinnamon stick and fenugreek, with a touch of fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with poise and sophistication, shimmering with energetic black and blue fruit layers and a perfectly plush texture, finishing with a dazzling display of minerals and floral fireworks. A hands-down, jaw-dropping beauty! Drink 2026-2056”
100 Points – Falstaff “Deep dark ruby, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the edge. Extremely floral, pure cassis but also fresh blackberries, in the background spicy nuance of cloves, candied violets, very multi-faceted. Full-bodied, elegant, dark fruit notes, silky tannins, notes of blueberries and currants, floral aspects, mineral and long-lasting.”
99 Points – Jeb Dunnuck “Starting off an incredible lineup of 2018s, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard has a purple/blue hue as well as a powerful bouquet of ripe blackcurrants, blueberries, smoked tobacco, and new leather, with a kiss of background graphite. Full-bodied, utterly seamless, and flawlessly balanced, it’s impossible to resist today yet will cruise for 20-25 years in cold cellars. Drink 2023-2048”
