Oh, and don’t let the vintage give you pause. Sure, 2020 was quite a challenging harvest. Yet as Wine Spectator says, “a range of leading producers decided to make wines from the 2020 vintage, all with outstanding results.” And Caymus is the epitome of that, since their flagship Special Selection bottling is all about being extra selective with the absolute best a vintage can bring. They add, “Special Selection has been named Wine of the Year in 2 vintages (a record), but Chuck Wagner is not one to rest on his laurels. He’s always learning from the past and looking toward the future.”

Each year, Caymus sets aside the finest barrels from their sizable Napa Valley Cabernet lots to craft Special Selection. It’s distinguished by extremely fine, velvety tannins and always enjoyable on release, yet built to age beautifully.

Our panel was floored by the powerful and fully loaded silky black and red fruits, silky soft tannins, and a seamless integration of lavish new oak. The palate is in full form, gobs of blackberry, cherries, crème de cassis, black licorice, sweet violets, melted dark chocolate, plums, vanilla… An opulent crowd-pleaser, as expected, so LOAD UP on quite possibly the most recognized name in Napa Cab.
