Mission Codename Do the math

“Black Cordon wines are all rich, very ripe and powerful in style and will be most appreciated by readers who seek raciness and unctuousness…” – Vinous

Have you been on the hunt for some perfectly crushable Chard to sip while manifesting summertime with all your powers?? The kind that’s over 50% OFF with impeccable winemaking behind it?

The hunt is over.

The latest vintage of Black Cordon’s Chardonnay has arrived. Per Vinous’ Antonio Galloni, “Black Cordon was one of the most pleasant surprises of the month I spent in Napa Valley.”

Ops who attended the December HQ hangout were over the moon to see 16x20 back on the table. If this were any other Chardonnay from the Paul Hobbs school of winemaking, you’d be paying at least triple. This definitely lives up to the humble release price and is daylight robbery at our price today.

Look at it this way.

You could buy a generic, mass-produced Chardonnay at Costco for $20-25. Or spend $4 more and get something like this. And it will outclass and outpace everything in its range. Some wines have trouble representing their release price, but not this. If anything, we’re guessing the label art may have taken some of the wind out of its sails because it doesn’t match the power, purity, and polish inside.

Black Cordon’s second label, ‘Sixteen by Twenty’ was started under the consulting of Paul Hobbs himself and nowadays is made by Julian Gonzales, who was his right hand for a decade. Gonzales brings previous experience at some names you may have heard of: Dominus, Merus, Guarachi, Baldacci, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, and Mi Sueno.

No ratings or reviews, but the man has racked up countless 95-100 scores. And if we’re being honest, it’s probably a good thing cause otherwise it may not be here in front of us… a decade at Paul Hobbs, baby! And Sonoma Coast is one of the places in the world that makes the best Chardonnay. All the greats pick the coast for Chardonnay because it helps create fresh, vibrant wines.

And the cult winemaking stamp is all over this white. Pure Chardonnay luxury in a style that pleases the crowd. Lush and mouth-coating with rich flavors of peach candy rings, baked apple, young coconut, and touches of vanilla. It delivers a perfectly balanced array of bright tropical fruits and cozy baking spices with some toasty oak and buttery brioche in the mix. Aged in 1/3 new French oak to preserve freshness, this is a buoyant and elegant example of the Hobbs school of Chardonnay. At over half off!?!

This is worth the hunt, but we have it served up for you on a golden platter.

Don’t let this one slip away!
