By now we all know TRB’s resumé. Amerca’s most awarded winemaker, with a “Midas touch”, he transforms nearly everything into 95-100 point gold. His resume includes many of the best Napa has to offer - Schrader, Outpost, Maybach, Pulido-Walker, Revana, Caterwaul, his own Rivers-Marie label… There are literally too many great wines to mention. And too many 100-pointers to count!

But Antix is special. It is a very young brand, founded by the Diamantis and Cashin families as a way to better understand their beloved Napa Valley. A playful experiment in how great wine could bring people together. They’ve kept production tiny and their growth organic, limited to a small mailing list of savvy collectors. And boy did they pull out all of the stops on the winemaking. Not just by hiring TRB, but by scoring some of the most coveted fruit in the valley!

The 2021 hails from the coveted Cemetery Vineyard in Saint Helena. Planted by Matt Hardin and Jim Barbour, two of Napa’s most in-demand farmers. Its scant 3.5 acres are located between Beckstoffer Las Piedras and David Abreu’s Capella Vineyard. And though Antix has never been in front of a critic, this same vineyard was the source of TRB’s 100-point Caterwaul ‘Last Rights’ (which will set you back more than double today’s offer). Other wines from the property routinely score in the high 90’s.

And we all know how spectacular Napa’s 2021 vintage is! Vinography calls it “Napa’s Greatest Vintage in Decades”, and it’s hard to disagree. The Wine Independent noted “It was a dream vintage for anyone working harvest. Small berries yielded intense flavors with ripe tannins and great concentration without going overblown.” Or, as James Suckling put it, “Cabernet sauvignon drinkers and collectors who haven’t yet taken a position on Napa Valley’s 2021s should get busy and commit. It’s a vintage of very high quality and small quantity, with concentrated flavors, ample fine-grained tannins and great overall balance that will help it age well.”

This bottling of Antix embodies all of that and more. We first tried it at a local Napa charity event where Diamantis was quietly pouring this stunner alongside sixty other wineries – all the best-of-the-best of Napa. So deep in color it threatens to stain the glass, it overflows with blue and black fruits adorned with lavish flourishes of mocha, toast, exotic spices, riding on crushed velvet tannins through an amazingly long finish. No exaggeration, it stood toe-to-toe with the $400-$500 bottles in the room!
