Back to the Future
Today marks the third time that we are showing a J. Doran wine. With each new wine that we show, we fall in love a little bit more. Today’s 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is certainly the best J. Doran we’ve tasted to date.
A classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, this youthful wine shows off earthiness and bold fruit. The fruit is a little restrained, at first, but comes alive with decanting. In fact, we think that the fruit will evolve beautifully over the next few years.
Enjoy now, and lay a few bottles down. Pair with a roast game bird or a pepper crusted steak. A mushroom ragu over fresh tagliatelle would also be delightful.
Tasting Profile
Look: | Deep and mysterious with a dark purple heart and edges of dark garnet. The wine settles quickly when spun, leaving behind tall, slow-moving legs that crawl down the glass wall. |
---|---|
Smell: | Dark and rich, with dark black cherry, bramble, blackberry compote and tea smoked plum. As the wine opens, it reveals dark dried leaves, dried blood rose petal, tobacco leaf and leather. |
Taste: | Reduced blackberry, picholine olive, black cherry and black cherry and mild tobacco leaf. Tea tannin and orange pekoe support a hint of black pepper and graphite at the edges of the palate. |
Finish: | Fine black tea tannin, tobacco, light olive and subtle savory herbs persist long after the black fruits have faded. |
