Loma Vista Vineyards
2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
California: Napa Valley
Today’s 2005 Loma Vista Cabernet Sauvignon is, in a word, remarkable.
This wonderful find is juicy, balanced, elegant, voluptuous and quite delicious. Our entire tasting panel was instantly smitten with this wine and, collectively, our only regret is that we could not get our hands on any more of it.
This Cabernet Sauvignon is classic Napa Valley. It is an approachable wine with plenty of complexity. Plush tannins make it a pleasure on the palate while balanced acids make it a wonderful compliment to most meals. Enjoy this wine all on its own, or pair it with a hearty red meat dish - like a juicy grilled t-bone.
This wine is in short supply, dear Operative, so please make your choice… quickly.
Drink now, or hold for another 10 or more years.
Deepest crimson red, with perfectly even coloration from the dark heart of the wine out to the edges of the glass. After a hearty swirl, tall, skinny columns of rapid-moving legs start high up on the glass wall.
Lush and full, bursting with aromas of fresh blackberry, blueberry, wild raspberry, strawberry, sweet spice and toasty oak. As the wine opens up, follow-on aromas are revealed, including dried fall leaves, leather and sweet dried tobacco.
Dark, juicy and delicious, led by black cherry, ripe blackberry, strawberry and black currant. After the wine breathes for a little while, it opens up, revealing sweet tobacco, sweet spice, leather, cigar box and pencil shavings (cedar and graphite).
Ultra-long and packed with long-sustaining flavors of red and black fruit. As fruits fade, earthy tobacco, spice, leather and minerals are revealed. At the tail end, a hint of black pepper provides a poignant punctuation.
This dark and earthy Cabernet yearns to be served with something equally intriguing. A beef bordelaise would be a delightful pairing.

Our style of winemaking is; everything done in the vineyards is intimately connected to the winemaking. Our small dedicated team works passionately to create some of the finest wines from the famous Napa Valley. We strive for lush, concentrated fruit flavors and good acid balance in all our wines.
Winemaker Kristof Nils Anderson
Kristof Nils Anderson has been making wine in the Napa Valley since 1992. He is the former winemaker at Lewis Cellars and in years prior, the protege of consultant Nils Venge, (Saddleback/ Venge/ Del Dotto/ Plumpjack/ Carter Cellars).
Kristof favors a gentle and patient winemaking approach, 90 percent of which happens before the grapes ever leave the vine. This includes hand harvesting at dawn to ensure pristine cluster condition upon arrival at the winery and hand sorting at three different stages. Incredibly, Kristof separately ferments as many as 40 individual vineyard blocks each vintage in small French oak barrels. This extensive array of fermentations offers him more components to compose the final blend, which will always be the one that most vividly expresses the vineyard during a single harvest season.
His time has been well spent honing the skills required of an accomplished craftsman. Additional experience from working at ETS Wine Labs in St. Helena combined with cellar time at Pine Ridge and Grgich Hills provide a well rounded and balanced background. Currently Kristof is winemaker for Gargiulo Vineyards in Oakville, Scribe Winery in Carneros as well as Robinson Family Vineyards in Napa.
Loma Vista Vineyard is unique in its micro-climate, a balance of sun, shade, wind and fog. It allows the fruit to extract the right nutrients from the soil through the roots, which are slightly stressed due to the nature of the soil.
Our vineyard is 2.5 acres tucked in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains off Soda Canyon Road in the famed Napa Valley. The rigorous vineyard program begins with the soil. The vineyards are now more than a decade old and were meticulously planted in the rocky volcanic foothills. Throughout the growing season the vines are carefully monitored. Shoot positioning and leaf thinning is done in June and keeps foliage up and away from the fruit. This provides the proper ratio of sun to clusters, insuring ripeness at harvest. Cluster thinning reduces the overall tonnage to concentrate flavor and complexity.
