Tignanello is quite simply a legendary wine. Iconic. One of the most well known in the world, and a beacon of greatness from Italy.

The previous vintage held the #3 spot on Wine Spectator Top-100 list in 2024 (and #5 in 2022!): “Our editors’ picks for the top 10 terroirs around the world include this site that became a cradle for the rebirth of this historic wine region… this iconic super Tuscan, the brainchild of Piero Antinori with the help of the late Giacomo Tachis and Bordeaux enologist Émile Peynaud… a game changer for Tuscany and Italy, Tignanello remains one of Italy’s greatest reds… the Antinori team continue to refine the oak treatment, and earlier blending of the grape varieties used has improved both the precision and expression of the Tignanello vineyard.”

And just when everybody thought that 2021 was the greatest Tig ever, came the 2022. It’s youthful but is already blooming into something extraordinary; decanting, or opening hours prior to enjoyment, are highly advisable. Or as the press confirms, it will cellar beautifully for at least a couple more decades.

99 Points – Owen Bargreen “A slightly different breed than the ’21, the 2022 Antinori ‘Tignanello’ really needs about an hour in the decanter to get going. I enjoyed this wine on five occasions while staying in Firenze and each time I noticed how the wine began to slowly evolve after an hour. It is even more heady and intense than the ’21, with a seamless texture and polished tannins that frame a gorgeous core of creme de violette, cassis, loamy soils and suggestions of sweet pipe tobacco on the palate. A total head-turning bottling, make sure to give this a lot of air if enjoying in its heady youth. Drink 2026-2046.”

97 Points – Wine Advocate “Rich and fruit-forward, the Marchesi Antinori 2022 Tignanello very much respects the vintage that tends to deliver more concentration and volume overall. It delivers extra fruit weight with a velvety, satiny feel over a generous mouthfeel. Tignanello offers blackcurrant and cherry, but there is a mineral note that keeps things focused. This is a beautiful expression of the vintage, with excellent work done to execute soft tannins, texture and length. Drink 2026-2045.”

96 Points – James Suckling “There’s extraordinary energy in this wine. It displays a dark nose of black cherries, bramble fruit, violets, forest, licorice, bark, carob and leather. Density and tension dominate the full-bodied palate, with firm, velvety tannins. It’s slightly austere in the finish at the moment, yet it’s crunchy and full of potential.”

96 Points – Falstaff “Rich ruby colour with a dense rim. Rich, very appealing nose of blackberry, blueberry, marjoram and some mint. Lots of precise tannins on the palate, pithy and dense, unfolds with rich blackberry notes, some smoke in the background, lingers for a long time.”
