Schrader has a firm vice grip on the world of cult wines. The 2019 vintage of this wine earned Wine Spectator’s #1 Wine of the Year. Every vintage we get comes and goes in the blink of an eye. This one, from the near-mythical 2023 vintage might be the best one yet…

Led by the legend himself, Thomas Rivers Brown, the previous vintages all hit mid to high 90 scores, and when we first dropped this last fall, it had no ratings. Today? It comes packing - 95 from Suckling and 94 from Dunnuck, with more to come, we’re sure. Judging by the vintage, which might go down in history as THE best ever in Napa, it has a good chance of outshining EVERY previous rendition. And that’s saying something.

If big, pedal-to-the-metal, ultra-concentrated beasts are your jam, this is it. It’s like a domesticated tiger, soft, powerful, impressive to behold, but cuddly and ready to bowl you over with its incredible weight.

Schrader is one of the OG cults of Napa. And Double Diamond is arguably one of the best ‘second wines’ from any similar Napa cult sources. While their other wines go for $500+, this costs a fraction.

It’s WORTH EVERY DANG PENNY in a time when so many things seem increasingly out of reach for us regular folk.

This comes from the Oakville cult wine powerhouse that received 100-point scores from Wine Advocate across three consecutive vintages under the direction THE Thomas Rivers Brown! Double Diamond is their entry-level offering here, but it’s anything but entry-level in the grand scheme of things. It serves up that same plump, pure, downright seductive charisma you’d expect from arguably one of the world’s finest Cabernet producers.

Did we mention the fruit? A healthy 70% of which comes from THE Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard?!

Dark as a tar pit in the glass, it sucks you in like one, too. Suckling called it “beautiful, luscious, easy sipping” and Jeb says, it has “a pure, layered, seamless profile.” It sucks you in like a tar pit, with black currants, black cherry reduction, blackberry with nutmeg, vanilla crème, and some spicy mesquite type notes come bubbling to the surface, too. There’s something truly unique and different about this wine. Hard to pin down exactly, but it’s unlike anything else.
